Motherkind
Zoe Blaskey
Motherkind is the podcast for women who know that motherhood changes everything — and want to grow forward, not “bounce back”. Hosted by Zoe Blaskey, Motherkind explores the profound personal, emotional and professional transformation that happens when you become a mother. This is a space for women navigating the wild, identity-shifting years of motherhood who want to reclaim confidence, redefine ambition, and build a life that works for who they are now. Each week, Zoe sits down with world-leading experts, thought leaders, psychologists, authors and well-known figures to unpack the real experiences of modern motherhood — from matrescence and identity loss to confidence, boundaries, work, relationships and self-worth. Expect honest conversations, evidence-based insight and practical tools that help you move through this season with clarity and strength. Motherkind is not about doing more, fixing yourself, or returning to who you were before children. It’s about becoming who you are now — with intention, compassion and growth. If you’re a mother who wants to feel more like herself again — confident, grounded and excited about what’s next — this is your place. Motherkind: for the woman behind the mother.

The exhausted person's guide to thrive with Selina Barker
8/04/202153 minWelcome to another episode of the Motherkind podcast. As mothers, we’ve held a lot this past year. I hear almost every day stories of you feeling exhausted, low of energy, and burnt out. My guest this week, Selina Barker, says that we don’t need to accept that as our status quo and we have so much more power to change how we feel than we think we do. She says that learning to manage her own energy, now means that she feels calmer, more grounded, and more energised than even before her pre-child self. And that’s what this episode can offer you too. This episode is full of practical tools and ideas. It’s quite a big promise but I do believe that if you put into practice at least 1 or 2 of the suggestions that Selina shares you will experience a difference. My invitation to you, then, is to actually apply what you learn from this episode and let me know how you get on. We talk about: - How does someone know the difference between feeling burnt-out vs knackered - Who her book Burnt Out is for - What got Selina fired up about burn-out - How to break the burn-out cycle - How managing your energy unleashes your best work - Loads of tips and tools to recharge your batteries FREEBIES! A radical approach to marriage with Kaley and Nate Klemp
1/04/202158 minIt is well documented that times of dramatic societal change, like the one we are in now, can either undo relationships or strengthen them. My guests this week are married couple Kaley and Nick Klemp and they found their relationship nearly undone to the point of break-up because of power struggles they were experiencing over trying to make things fair. So they decided to try a new approach which they call the 80/80 Marriage. The idea is that each person gives 80% as opposed to the traditional 50%, which is what they call radical generosity. It’s based on giving more than required. It’s not based on traditional gender roles or this idea of fairness. You may be thinking I am barely able to give 50%. How can you be suggesting we give more? I hear you on that and I do challenge them on that exact point. Their answer was fascinating. This is a model that rather than being based on what’s best for me, asks what’s best for us. Simple but quite radical if you think about what that might mean. I cannot wait to hear what you think about this idea. Would you be willing to give it a go? What difference do you think it might make in your marriage or any relationship? We talk about: - What is an 80/80 marriage? - Why the 50/50 marriage almost destroyed their marriage - How equality left them feeling resentful in the marriage - What is the 80/50 hangover - How has the Pandemic intersected with the 80/80 concept - What does radical generosity look like in a marriage - Letting go of the scorecard and transitioning beyond resentment - How to balance your professional pursuits - How their marriage feels today - Tools that make a difference As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. Why your childhood still matters today with Stephanie Stahl
11/03/202159 minWelcome to this week’s episode. As you know if you are a regular listener to this podcast, what we experience in our childhood unconsciously shapes and determines our entire approach to life as adults. Once we know this, it gives us something very powerful. And that is choice. Once we have a choice to become aware of our unconscious belief patterns and where they come from in our childhood, then we can change them. I find that the most exciting thing in the world. Regardless of how you were parented or how your early experiences were you have the power to change how you show up in parenthood. And I believe that is whole, full of love, and infinite potential. And that is what this week’s episode is all about. It will show you how to connect to your childhood experiences if you want to enact change as an adult. If you are getting stuck it could be because of something that happened in your childhood. Stephanie Stahl is known as Germany’s psycho-therapist superstar. She is one of Germany's top psychologists and authors on how to confront your past, trauma, fear and shame and live more authentically. She has written 10 books. Her latest one, the Child in You, is brilliant. It’s been a multimillion best seller in Europe and it’s about to be released in the UK. I loved how practical the book is. Super simple yet transformational. I love this episode and hope you do too. 25/02/20211h 7mMy guest this week says we are all born feeling enough, with an innate sense of esteem and confidence. Energy is finite. We only have so much of it each day, and yet often without knowing it we give that energy far too quickly to other people and things that aren't that important to us. Why parenting is generational with Philippa Perry
21/01/20211h 3mAfter reading The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will Be Glad That You Did), I knew I had to get Philippa Perry on the podcast. She is a renowned psychotherapist, author, journalist, and television presenter, and the wife of artist Grayson Perry. In this episode she helps us unpack what gets in the way of connecting with our children. She would like children to be able to tell their parents absolutely anything. And, as parents, she says it could be dangerous to close that down. If we can have a strong healthy connection with our kids, the future can take care of itself. We dig into: - How to have connected, trusting relationships with our children (even if we didn't have that with our own parents) - What gets in the way of having a good connection with our kids and what can enhance it - The trouble with not feeling our own pain - The generational cycles of parenting - What does it mean to give our kids 'enough' attention - Authenticity vs perfection parenting - How to help children express anger without acting out There is so much heart and wisdom in this exchange with Philippa. I hope you can feel it too. DISCOUNT FOR THE MOTHERKIND COMMUNITY As you may already know, I’m very excited about our sponsor, Zendium toothpaste. How to make your peace of mind a priority with Sheri Riley
14/01/202156 minSheri Riley says that peace is the new success and we need to make it our highest priority. I absolutely love that and I’m so pleased she joined me for such a powerful and uplifting conversation on the Motherkind podcast. We think that pursuing peace means that we need to calm down or slow down. She says the opposite is true and that the power of peace is what is going to enhance our lives and fill the void. Real, internal, palpable, and substantive peace. I could list a dozen more bullets about what we dug into, here are just a few: - Sheri's breakdown to breakthrough - How Sheri did a 360-degree transformation of her life - How to put interconnectedness and calm first - Why is peace the new success - How do you stop putting 100% of your time on 10% of who you are expecting 100% of your fulfillment - How do you love the career you have and your life Big gratitude to Zendium for supporting me and the podcast. Dr Rangan Chatterjee
29/12/202059 minDr. Rangan Chatterjee joins me on the podcast, and we jump right into a very honest and passionate conversation from the start. He believes that everyone has the ability to feel better. The solution isn’t always in a pill. It’s a lifestyle prescription. And, he’s taking a stand: people are needlessly suffering and this is preventable and unacceptable. After many years of seeing patients, he has come to the realisation that all of us can feel much better than we currently do and good health is accessible to every single one of us. He’s written four books and his latest, Feel Great Lose Weight, offers a simple five-step plan to feel better, sleep well and move more. I read every single word of this book and loved it. This book has so much power and richness in it. And it’s about so much more than losing weight. You can hear the compassion in his voice throughout this episode. He was so open and honest and generous. I hope you’ll enjoy this conversation as much as I did. In this episode we get into: - Rangan's incredibly honest experience of 2020 - Generational imprinting - Obesity and adverse childhood experiences - I challenge him on why he wrote a book on weight loss - How Covid can bring us a greater awareness of ourselves As you may already know, I’m very excited about our sponsor, Zendium toothpaste. Gelong Thubten (re-release)Is happiness a choice
21/12/202058 minThis week I thought, with the New Year, it would be great to re-release a fantastic chat I had with Gelong Thubten, who is a meditation teacher and author of the fantastic book, ‘A Monk’s Guide to Happiness’. Thubten was led to completely change his life after suffering from burnout in his early 20s. This led him to a Buddhist monastery in Scotland where he studied and was ordained as a monk. Since then, Thubten has been sharing his wisdom worldwide and is a pioneer in mindfulness meditation. Thubten has over 20 years worth of experience working with schools, universities and businesses, such as Google. He’s lectured at institutions like Oxford and the UN and, he worked as a consultant on the Marvel Movie, ‘Dr. Strange’. In our conversation, we unpacked what happiness really is and we talked about how can we find freedom from our 'crazy minds'. We also talked about meditation, of course, and Thubten did a great job re-framing some of the resistance that we often feel towards meditation. Thubten also gives guidance around how the practice can support our children and the way we show up as parents. I really loved our conversation, and hope you enjoy it too. Joanna Fortune (re-release)- How to profoundly connect with your child(in just 15 minutes a day)
21/12/202058 minThis week I’m delighted to re-release this popular and important episode with the lovely Joanna Fortune. Joanna is a clinical psychotherapist, an attachment specialist, and the author of the brilliant series of books, ’15 Minute Parenting’. Joanna has been working with children and families for over 20 years. She came up with the fantastic concept of ‘15 Minute Parenting’ after hearing from parents over and over again that, often, they only had 15 minutes of quality time every day to connect with their children. The books centre around how we can use play to connect with our children, underpinned by Joanna’s years of experience in psychotherapy and attachment theory. We had such a great conversation, exploring self-parenting and taking care of our own stuff as the caregivers for our children. We also talk about our inner critic and relationship with shame – and how to be aware of when we might be passing this on to our children. And towards the end of our conversation, we talk about play and some of Joanna’s 15-minute parenting ethos that can help us connect with our children in just 15 minutes a day. He is the child of an addict and an addict in recovery himself. Josh is also a dad of four and in this episode, we really unpack how dysfunction, trauma and addiction get passed down through the generations. Why breathwork is your super power with Richie Bostock
29/10/202049 minThis week, I’m really excited to be speaking with Richie Bostock. Richie is a breathwork coach, author and speaker, and he’s made it his mission to spread the life-changing possibilities of breathwork. Richie’s book, Exhale, is fantastic and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about using your breath for healing. No-one ever really teaches us ‘how’ to breathe and so many of us are actually breathing in ways that aren’t serving us. In the episode, we explore how we can change the way that we feel through the way that we breathe. Richie also shares some simple breathing techniques that you can use throughout your day to help shift your energy and feel better. We also talk about how breath can be used for healing and why sometimes it can be more effective to start with bodywork practices, such as breathwork, than with traditional talking therapy. I am absolutely fascinated by breathwork and I loved this conversation with Richie, I think you’ll find it really practical and helpful. For the full show notes, please head over to motherkind.co. How to Begin Your Healing with Susy O'Hare
22/10/202054 minI’m excited to share this week’s conversation with you. I’m speaking with Susy O’Hare, who is an author, a meditation teacher and a mother to three, very soon to be four, children. Susy’s first book is called ‘Diary of an ADHD Mum’ and since then, her work has expanded to talk about the huge importance of healing ourselves, instead of trying to ‘fix’ our children. Susy and I both believe this is the most profound way to raise our children – and we have a really deep conversation around this topic. We talk about allowing ourselves to understand that our children are our mirror, reflecting back what work we need to do on ourselves. Susy shares her wisdom from a very grounded, down-to-earth place. She’s a busy working mum and life hasn’t always looked this way for her. Susy shares her own traumas and how she felt she got her parenting ‘wrong’ for a long time, until the gift of her daughter arrived which was the start of her healing journey. I think you’ll find this a really inspiring conversation. For the full show notes, please head over to www.motherkind.co. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Thubten was led to completely change his life after suffering from burnout in his early 20s. This led him to a Buddhist monastery in Scotland where he studied, and was ordained as a monk. How to profoundly connect with your child (in just 15 minutes a day) with Joanna Fortune
17/09/202056 minThis week I’m delighted to welcome the lovely Joanna Fortune to the podcast. I really enjoyed our conversation and hope you will, too. For the full show notes, please head over to motherkind.co. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
