Children vaccinated at age 12–13 against HPV (human papillomavirus) have close to zero risk of dying from cervical cancer before the age of 30, landmark new research has revealed. The first study of its kind shows deaths have fallen sharply since school-age girls began being offered it in 2008, and around 200 lives have been saved in England so far thanks to the vaccine. Between 2020 and 2024, no cervical cancer deaths were recorded in women aged 20 to 24 - the first time that had happened over a five-year period. Without vaccination, around 23 deaths would have been expected. Iran and the US have confirmed they have agreed a peace deal. US President Donald Trump has said the strait of Hormuz will be reopened and has ordered a lifting of the US naval blockade on Iranian ports. The deal is expected to be signed in Switzerland on Friday. Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social: "Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete... I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade," he says. "Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!" Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed on state TV that a deal with the US has been finalised and the official signing will take place in Switzerland on Friday. "An immediate and permanent end to the war and military operations on different fronts including Lebanon will be announced tonight," he said, stating that the US naval blockade against Iran would be lifted immediately. Pakistan first announced that the US and Iran have reached peace deal to end military operations. Pakistan has played a key role as an intermediary between the two sides in peace talks. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that both sides had declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However the Israeli military operations has been continuing against Hezbollah militia in Lebanon. Iran has said that an end to that offensive is a condition for any deal, raising question about the sustainability of the agreement. Details of what the agreement says regarding other key issues in dispute are not yet clear. One such issues is future control of the strait of Hormuz, the key shipping lane through which around a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas passes. Another contentious issue is the future of Iran’s nuclear programme, including the enrichment of uranium. Pakistan has been playing a leading role in negotiations between the two countries. Sharif made the statement in a post on social media. It came as officials in the US and Iran warned against trusting reports setting out the details of a possible agreement. Iran’s foreign minister said that Abbas Araghchi earlier stated that a deal had “never been closer” , while all warning that the “media should refrain from speculation about its content”. US President Donald Trump reposted Araghchi's statement, which also asked the media not to speculate about the content of the deal. Iranian media have published details of the alleged deal, prompting Trump to say they had "nothing to do with the terms that were agreed to" and "bears no relation to the truth". Trump accused Tehran of leaking the details and added that they were "very dishonourable people to deal with". Speculation has centred on the terms of any deal regarding control over the strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme. Iran has insisted that it will retain control over the key shipping lane and has rejected US demands to abandon it nuclear enrichment programme. The US says Iran’s nuclear material will be destroyed and removed from the country. A day earlier the US president said he had cancelled "scheduled attacks" against Iran, because negotiators had "just made a great settlement" - a deal that was likely be to signed imminently. Protests held across Northern Ireland on Thursday night passed off without major incident following a "robust" police response. Police had vowed to crack down on any further trouble after two nights of unrest triggered by a brutal stabbing in Belfast on Monday.
