The US Mercenaries Fighting Haiti’s Deadly Gang War

About this episode

“Years of political turmoil, corruption and the ascendance of a deadly gang coalition are suffocating Haiti’s capital city. The US and international community have repeatedly tried and failed to help bring order. Now, the remnants of Haiti’s government have rolled the dice with a very different option: a US private security tycoon.” These are the words of Nick Paton Walsh, CNN’s Chief International Security Correspondent, who has just released a groundbreaking report going inside the secretive operation taking on Haiti’s gangs. Today David McCloskey is joined by Nick to dig into his reporting about how the murky world of private security has become a new lifeline for failing states who can’t help themselves. ------------------- Watch Nick's report from Haiti: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZpa3UWjQu4 ------------------- Sign-up for our free newsletter where producer Becki takes you behind the scenes of the show: therestisclassified.com/newsletter ------------------- Join the Declassified Club to go deeper into the world of espionage with exclusive Q&As, interviews with top intelligence insiders, regular livestreams, ad-free listening, early access to episodes and live show tickets, and weekly deep dives into original spy stories.
