In fact, it was imported from the United States, where it started in the early 20th century. The idea of Father’s Day was first proposed by Sonora Smart Dodd, a woman from Spokane, Washington, who wanted to show her appreciation for her father, William Jackson Smart. He was a Civil War veteran and a widower who raised six children by himself.
