Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Hinto iOS app ("the App") and the hintoapp.com website. By using Hinto you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Hinto.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country to consent to online services) to use Hinto. By using the App you confirm that you meet this requirement.
2. Your Account
You create a Hinto account by signing in with Apple or Google. There is no separate sign-up form. By signing in you authorize the provider to share basic profile data (identifier, email, optional display name) with Hinto so we can create and operate your account.
You are responsible for keeping your Apple ID or Google account secure. You are responsible for activity that happens under your Hinto account.
You may delete your account at any time by emailing hello@hintoapp.com. Deletion removes your learning data and any private content you uploaded.
3. License to Use Hinto
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial language-learning purposes.
4. Content in Hinto
a. Content provided by Hinto and third parties
The App displays content from third-party sources — including podcasts, YouTube videos, books, and reference material — together with our own interface, lookups, translations, and learning features. Third-party content remains the property of its respective owners and is provided to you under the rights they have granted (e.g. public podcast feeds, public YouTube content).
b. Content you add
Hinto lets you contribute content to your library in two ways:
- Public additions (podcasts and YouTube). When you add a podcast or YouTube link, you are pointing Hinto at publicly available content. The item becomes part of Hinto's shared catalog so other learners can find it as well. You are not transferring ownership of the underlying content — copyright stays with the original creator. You confirm that the link you add is to lawfully published material and that you have the right to share it in this way.
- Private uploads (books and similar files). Files you upload to your library — for example, a PDF or EPUB you want to read in Hinto — are visible only to you. You can remove them from your library at any time, which deletes them from our storage. You retain ownership of files you upload. By uploading, you grant Hinto a limited license to host, process (parse, index, translate, generate audio if applicable), and display the file back to you so the App can work. You confirm that you have the right to upload each file (e.g. you own the file, or it is lawfully available to you, or the copyright owner permits it).
c. What you must not do
- Upload material you do not have the right to upload, including pirated books or copyrighted files distributed without permission.
- Add content that is illegal, harmful, hateful, sexually explicit involving minors, or that violates third-party rights.
- Use Hinto to harass, defraud, or harm other users or creators.
We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
d. DMCA / copyright complaints
If you believe content in Hinto infringes your copyright, contact us at hello@hintoapp.com with the work in question, the URL or location inside Hinto, and a statement of good-faith belief that the use is not authorized. We will review and act promptly.
5. Subscriptions and In-App Purchases
Hinto offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions that unlock premium features.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Renewal is charged within 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your device.
- If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you start a paid subscription.
- All payments are processed by Apple. Refund requests must be submitted to Apple Support. We do not issue refunds directly.
6. Intellectual Property
The Hinto name, logo, design, code, interface, original copy, and learning features are owned by Hinto and protected by intellectual property laws. The rights granted to you under these Terms do not include any right to copy, modify, redistribute, or create derivative works from Hinto's own intellectual property without our prior written permission.
Third-party content shown in Hinto remains the property of its respective owners.
7. Privacy
Our handling of your personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms.
8. Disclaimers
Hinto is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that translations, summaries, or generated content will be perfectly accurate.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hinto and its team shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or revenue, arising out of or related to your use of Hinto. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App shall not exceed the amount you have paid us for the App in the twelve months preceding the claim.
10. Termination
You may stop using Hinto and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, misuse the App, or if we are required to do so by law. On termination, the licenses granted to you end immediately.
11. Apple App Store EULA
If you obtained Hinto through the Apple App Store, your use is also governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement. In any conflict between these Terms and Apple's Standard EULA with respect to the App on iOS, the more restrictive provision applies.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective Date" above. For material changes we will provide notice in the App or by email. Continued use of Hinto after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
