Helios Is AMD’s First AI System To Rival Nvidia Vera Rubin — We Got An Exclusive, First Look

AMD is one of the best performing chip stocks of 2026, following a decade-long comeback in data center chips. Now, it’s making its biggest competitive move against Nvidia yet. AMD’s first rack-scale system for AI, Helios, is shipping later this year - and it’s the world’s first competitor to Nvidia’s Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems. Now, Microsoft has signed up to use Helios in its data centers, joining other customers Meta, OpenAI and Oracle. But with a price tag of at least $5 million, analysts estimate Helios will cost at least $1 million more than Nvidia Vera Rubin. How Elon Musk's AI Empire In Memphis Became A Cautionary Tale

Elon Musk's xAI, now known as SpaceXAI following a merger with SpaceX, has made the Memphis, Tennessee area the center of its AI ambitions. XAI is building three data centers there, as well as a power plant in Southaven, Mississippi. XAI's AI infrastructure there truly deserves its name Colossus. It's a modern marvel that was built with breakneck speed. Anthropic and Google are now renting compute capacity at the data centers in a deals worth billions of dollars. But some say the buildout has been chaotic. XAI is now facing multiple lawsuits accusing the company of using loud, pollution-emitting gas turbines, some without the required Clean Air Act permits. That includes turning the truck into an SUV. The vehicles had more than 150,000 refundable reservations before their release, despite waning consumer demand in EVs in the U.S. The company is about to find out if the truck can disrupt the market.
