The former Ukraine defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov has told the BBC he stands by his call for nationwide elections even though the country is at war. Fedorov, a popular minister who modernised the military and pioneered drone warfare, was fired last month after reportedly falling out with the head of Ukraine's armed forces. In a video released online earlier in the week, he said "democracy should not be the hostage of Putin" and accused individuals in the government of corruption.
