Going Back to Go Beyond | Raisa Anvar Raseena | TEDxUniversity of Birmingham Dubai

We spend our lives operating under the assumption that softening the truth makes us a good person. We rewrite texts, water down opinions, and hide our real feelings, convinced it protects the people around us. But this constant focus on keeping the room comfortable isn't actually selflessness. Behind our obsession with being "nice" lies a hidden reality: our politeness is rarely about saving others from getting hurt. It is a protective reflex born out of a fear of judgment. We would simply rather fake a smile than deal with the temporary discomfort of someone being mad at us. When we look at how we treat our friends, families, and co-workers, the cost of this compromise becomes undeniable. True connection requires us to stop prioritizing comfort over reality, step out of the roles we play just to be liked, and finally find the courage to speak plainly. As someone who values clarity over comfort, Raisa is taking the stage to deconstruct the 'nice' disguise. Her talk is a wake-up call to stop editing our thoughts, stop fearing conflict, and finally get back to the unedited version of ourselves. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
