Ukrainian drone attacks cast a dark cloud over Vladimir Putin’s annual international economic forum in St Petersburg earlier in June. The event, once seen as Russia’s answer to the World Economic Forum in Davos, traditionally brings together foreign investors and members of Russia’s political and business elites. This year only a handful of Western representatives were in attendance, including controversial figures such as right-wing influencer Candace Owens.
