The AI revolution didn’t happen overnight—here’s why | Michael Wooldridge | TEDxManchester
29. Aug. 2026
In this insightful talk, Professor Michael Wooldridge of Oxford University pulls back the curtain on the "overnight" AI revolution. Far from being a recent phenomenon, the journey of Artificial Intelligence began in the 1940s in Manchester, England. From the code-breaking genius of Alan Turing to the modern-day phenomena of Nvidia and OpenAI, Wooldridge traces the high-stakes history of the technology that is currently reshaping our world. The Professor's talk covers.. The Early Days: How the first digital computers and the Turing Test set the stage for machine intelligence. The Neural Network Breakthrough: Why the 1980s got the science right, but lacked the data and power to make it work. The GPU Revolution: The unlikely story of how computer game chips (designed for explosions in Call of Duty) became the secret sauce for modern AI. The Rise of Transformers: How a 2017 Google research paper led to the birth of GPT-3 and the early success of ChatGPT. Clever vs Gimmicky vs. Useful: Why AI can solve complex prime number equations in Latin, but still can’t figure out how to load your dishwasher. Michael Wooldridge is the Ashall Professor of the Foundations of Artificial Intelligence at Oxford University. He is best known for his pioneering work on multi-agent systems building multiple artificial intelligences that can cooperate, negotiate, and decipher convoluted problems similar to human collaboration. In 2023, he delivered the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures, titled ‘The Truth About AI’, and is a champion for making science accessible, having written the Ladybird Expert Guide to AI and the award-winning The Road to Conscious Machines. For Michael’s thirty years of research, technical breakthroughs and dedication to teaching others, he was recently awarded the prestigious Michael Faraday Prize by the Royal Society in late 2025, becoming the first computer scientist in history to receive it. Could we eradicate Alzheimer's disease? | Jonathan Marsh | TEDxNaples
28. Aug. 2026
Dr. Jonathan Marsh believes the future of Alzheimer’s care will be shaped by prevention. In his talk, Dr. Marsh explores advances that could change Alzheimer’s from a disease of aging into a disease that can be prevented. From GLP-1 medications and monoclonal antibodies currently in use, to vaccines and new inhaled therapies now in development, these breakthroughs raise a striking possibility: that within a decade, Alzheimer’s may no longer define the future for millions. After training at Clemson University and earning his MD at the Medical University of South Carolina, where Dr. Jonathan Marsh also completed his Internal Medicine residency, he moved to Naples, Florida in 2012 and became a serial entrepreneur in healthcare. He founded Naples Concierge Health to move beyond the constraints of traditional fee-for-service models, creating space for innovation, patient education, and preventive care. Leading Beyond Logic | Ishaan Kiran Mithra | TEDxChinmaya Vidyalaya Attukal Youth
28. Aug. 2026
Good leadership is often associated with planning, efficiency and achieving results. But technical knowledge and logical thinking alone are not enough to guide people effectively. This talk explores the balance between logic and emotion, management and empathy, and results and relationships. It shows how understanding different perspectives, communicating with compassion and valuing diverse strengths can transform the way teams work together. True leadership is not about choosing between clarity and compassion. It is about bringing both together to create meaningful and lasting impact. An analytical high school student pursuing law, Ishaan Kiran Mithra loves finding the unexpected connections between technology, leadership, and human behavior. From coding to public speaking, they have always operated at the intersection of logic and structure. However, through their hands-on experiences managing school events and collaborative projects, they realized that true impact requires more than just a result-oriented mindset. Taking the stage at TEDx Chinmaya Vidyalaya Attukal Youth, Ishaan dives into the vital balance between technical management and human empathy. Their talk explores how embracing diverse passions allows us to navigate the tension between logic and emotion, ultimately helping the next generation lead with both clarity and compassion. The Stories We Become | Abhilash Sudheesh | TEDxChinmaya Vidyalaya Attukal Youth
28. Aug. 2026
Stories do more than entertain us. They influence how we understand the world, interpret our experiences and imagine our possibilities. This talk explores how the narratives around us—and the stories we repeatedly tell ourselves—can shape our thoughts, decisions, behaviour and identity. Some stories encourage us to grow, while others quietly limit what we believe is possible. By becoming more conscious of the stories guiding our lives, we can question inherited assumptions, rewrite limiting narratives and take a more active role in shaping who we become. Abhilash Sudheesh is a filmmaker, storyteller, and a creative strategist whose work explores the intersection of storytelling, branding, and human behaviour. He is the Founder and Creative Head of 11th Hour Productions — a Kerala-based media production house. Throughout his career, he has led creative teams working with some of the country's leading brands, multinational companies, and institutions, crafting stories that connect with audiences. He is also a member of the Board of Management of Chinmaya Vidyalayas across Trivandrum & Kollam, contributing to educational and strategic initiatives across the institution. Across films, brands, and communication campaigns, Abhilash has spent years exploring the power of stories to shape human thought and behaviour. His TEDx talk continues that exploration, inviting audiences to rethink one of life's biggest questions—not how we succeed, but how we become. When slavery isn't abolished—but outsourced | Bonnie Nixon | TEDxJacksonville
23. Aug. 2026
There are an estimated 28 million people living in modern slavery today. Many of them made something you're holding right now. Dr. Bonnie Nixon’s work explores the intersection of environmental justice and modern slavery, highlighting how consumer goods like your smartphone are manufactured through complex global networks. The question Dr. Nixon has spent her career asking — and answering — is the one most of us avoid: if slavery was never abolished but simply outsourced, what does that make the rest of us? Unwitting participants, perhaps. But participants who still have a choice. #ForcedLabor #EnvironmentalJustice #CorporateAccountability #EthicalTech #ModernSlavery #SupplyChainEthics #HumanRights #ConsumerResponsibility What You'll Learn: How multi-tiered supply chains obscure labor exploitation Why auditing systems fail to catch forced labor What consumers and corporations can actually do differently Who This Is For: For sustainability professionals, procurement leaders, educators, and any conscious consumer who has ever wondered how many hands — and under what conditions — brought any product to their door. Dr. Bonnie Nixon brings decades of expertise in multi-tiered supply chains at Hewlett Packard, Walmart, Mattel and many other fortune 100 corporations. Her worldwide standards, auditing, reporting and training work exposes the "invisible" nature of labor exploitation and demonstrates how slavery was never abolished but simply outsourced. What If You're Wrong? | Cheryl Mitchell | TEDxAlabaster
21. Aug. 2026
What if the beliefs you’re most certain about are keeping you from truly seeing the person in front of you? When we loosen our grip on our locked-in beliefs and choose curiosity over certainty, conversations and relationships can change. Cheryl B. Mitchell believes most conflict isn’t caused by bad intentions. It’s caused by different perspectives. From her roots on a dairy farm to her work in education, agriculture, leadership, and personal development, she has become fascinated by the lenses through which we each interpret reality. Through her work with audiences across the country, Cheryl has challenged people to reconsider long-held assumptions, navigate differences with greater curiosity, and see familiar situations through a new lens. Why wonder is our advantage in the age of AI | Brooke McKinney | TEDxAlabaster
21. Aug. 2026
As artificial intelligence reshapes how we learn, work, and create, developing human capability becomes more important than simply producing better answers. The challenge is designing the conditions that keep thinking visible and allow judgment, curiosity, and discernment to develop. This talk explores why wonder may be the developmental foundation that makes those capacities possible, and one of our most important advantages in the age of AI. A former AP Language teacher, instructional architect, and faculty developer, Brooke McKinney’s work bridges rhetoric, learning science, philosophy, and artificial intelligence to explore one question: How do we recognize human capability when polished work no longer proves human thinking? Across classrooms, workplaces, and university settings, Brooke noticed the same pattern: people consistently became more than the stories others had constructed about them. That realization led her to develop original frameworks that help educators and leaders recognize thinking, judgment, and human capability more wisely. Her work has reached thousands of educators through AI curriculum, faculty development, keynotes, publications, podcasts, and The Engaging Teacher. Brooke argues that AI has exposed one of our oldest human blind spots: we have always been better at evaluating what people produce than recognizing what people are capable of. What Would You Do With More Time? | KaLyn Williams | TEDxAlabaster
21. Aug. 2026
Technology can save us time, but what matters most is how we spend it. If we leverage tools like artificial intelligence solely to become more productive, we risk filling the time we save with even more labor. But if we use these tools intentionally and responsibly, they can give us time back—to be more present, invest in our well-being and relationships, and ultimately improve our quality of life. KaLyn Williams helps business leaders increase revenue. In 2016, she founded All Eyes On You Branding (AEOY), a marketing agency in Birmingham, AL. In 2020, she graduated from the University of Memphis’ Journalism & Strategic Media Department with honors. She entered the workforce during the pandemic, when digital media became one of the only ways organizations could communicate with their audiences. That era sharpened her ability to plan and implement successful campaigns, a skill she continued developing as a Campaign Manager at Red Deluxe Brand Development and Archer Malmo, where she managed campaigns for St. Jude, the Memphis Grizzlies, Medtronic, and more. In addition to owning an advertising agency, she’s a philanthropy professional that serves as the Institutional Giving Manager at Red Mountain Theatre. She helps secure a multi-million-dollar fundraising budget each year while pursuing her MBA at the UAB. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and creating art.
