How children get to school tells us a lot about the communities we’ve built and whether those communities are serving kids or letting them down. In this talk, educator and Bike Bus World founder Sam Balto shares how walking school buses and bike buses help students arrive at school safer, calmer, more connected, and ready to learn. What began as a simple way to get kids moving became a global movement for active transportation, safer streets, and childhood independence. When communities are safe enough for children to walk and bike to school, they become better for everyone. Sam Balto, creator of the Bike Bus, builds community and gets kids moving through collaborations ranging from Stranger Things to rides with Justin Timberlake, Benson Boone, and former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.
